How to Transfer Ketamine Treatment to a New Clinic in New Jersey or New York

Thinking about switching ketamine or Spravato® providers? Learn how transferring treatment to a new clinic in New Jersey or New York works, from your intake call and medical review to records, scheduling, and what to expect.

If you’re already receiving IV ketamine or Spravato® treatment and thinking about changing providers, you probably have questions. Will you have to start over? Will your treatment history be reviewed? Can you continue your current plan?

Whether you’re looking for a ketamine clinic closer to home, weekend and evening appointment times, a Spravato provider in New Jersey or New York, or simply a better fit, understanding how a transfer works can make the transition easier.

At Keta Medical Center, we know that switching providers is a big decision. Our goal is to make the process as simple as possible while making sure every patient receives a thorough medical evaluation and ongoing oversight.

Why do patients transfer ketamine treatment?

People switch ketamine or Spravato providers for many reasons. Some have moved and need a clinic closer to home. Others want more convenient scheduling, different insurance options, additional treatment options, or a different level of patient support and medical oversight. Whatever your reason, transferring treatment doesn’t necessarily mean starting from the beginning.

What happens when you first contact Keta Medical Center?

The first step is a conversation with our Patient Intake Team.

During this consultation, we’ll learn about your current treatment, your experience so far, and what you’re looking for in your next phase of care. We’ll answer your questions about treatment options, scheduling, insurance, and locations, and walk you through what transferring your care may involve, including any information or treatment records we may need. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you call us. Our goal is to make the process simple, informative, and comfortable from the start.

Will I have to start ketamine treatment over?

Not necessarily. When you switch providers, our medical team reviews your previous treatment and relevant medical history, then builds a plan around your individual circumstances and clinical evaluation.

Transferring care doesn’t automatically mean continuing the exact same plan. But it also doesn’t mean your past experience is ignored. Your treatment history helps our team understand where you are in your care and what the right next steps may be.

Why is a medical review required?

Ketamine and Spravato® require appropriate medical evaluations and oversight. Before starting at our clinic, every patient speaks to one of our doctors, usually co-founder Dr. Haviva Malina to determine eligibility and whether treatment is appropriate for you and, if so, which type. This may include reviewing:

  • Your current and previous medications
  • Your medical history
  • Your previous ketamine or Spravato treatment
  • Your treatment response and history
  • Relevant medical records
  • Any other information needed for a clinical evaluation

Our goal is to make sure treatment is approached thoughtfully, not simply scheduled.

What types of ketamine treatments does Keta Medical Center offer?

Keta Medical Center offers both IV ketamine infusions and Spravato®. If you’re currently receiving treatment at another clinic, our Intake Team can walk you through the transfer process for either treatment.

Your next steps will be individualized based on factors such as your medical history, previous treatment, current medications, insurance coverage, and clinical evaluation. For Spravato® patients, your current stage of treatment also matters. The transfer process may look different depending on whether you’re completing the initial induction phase or receiving maintenance treatment.

What about scheduling?

Ketamine and Spravato treatment require a regular commitment, so a clinic whose locations and hours fit your life matters.

Keta Medical Center has 9 locations across New York and New Jersey, with appointments available seven days a week, including evenings until 9:30pm on weekdays and 9:15pm on weekends, depending on the location. (The availability of treatment may vary by office depending on our clinical team’s schedule.) When appropriate, patients may also be able to receive treatment at different Keta locations. Our Intake Team can explain current options and help you find what works for you.

What information should I have when I call?

You don’t need to have anything, but if you want to come prepared the following items can help streamline the transfer process. Don’t worry if you don’t have every detail in front of you.

  • The name of your current or previous treatment provider
  • Your recent ketamine or Spravato treatment history
  • Current and previous medications
  • Insurance information
  • Relevant medical records, if available
  • Any questions or concerns about continuing treatment

We’ll let you know what additional information may be needed as we go.

Frequently asked questions about transferring ketamine treatment

Can I switch ketamine clinics?

Yes. Patients switch providers for many reasons, including relocation, scheduling needs, insurance changes, or wanting a provider that better fits their needs. A new provider will typically review your treatment history and determine the appropriate next steps.

How do I transfer Spravato treatment to another provider?

You’ll generally need to share information about your current treatment and medical history. Your new provider will review it and determine next steps based on a clinical evaluation. Your current stage, such as induction or maintenance, may also be relevant.

Will I have to start my ketamine treatment over?

Not necessarily. Your treatment history is considered as part of the medical evaluation, but transferring doesn’t guarantee your previous plan will continue exactly as it was. Your new provider will recommend a plan based on your individual circumstances.

What medical records do I need to change ketamine providers?

It varies by patient. Helpful information may include your previous provider’s contact information, treatment history, medication list, dosing information, and relevant medical records. Your new treatment center can tell you exactly what’s needed in your situation.

How do I find a ketamine clinic near me?

Consider:

  • Treatment options offered
  • Medical oversight
  • Clinic locations
  • Appointment availability
  • Insurance participation
  • Patient support
  • Experience with your specific treatment

Starting with an intake conversation is a good way to find out whether a clinic fits your needs.
