FDA-approved treatment

Spravato® (Esketamine) Treatment for Depression

For people who haven’t found relief with traditional antidepressants. Spravato nasal spray is a groundbreaking therapy that can provide rapid relief from severe depression.

Understanding the treatment

What is Spravato?

Simple and noninvasive

Spravato (or esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray that is quickly and simply administered in our clinic under physician supervision.

An innovative approach

Spravato targets different brain chemicals than antidepressants, making it effective when other treatments have failed.

Rapid relief

Many patients feel better within days or even hours, unlike traditional antidepressants that take weeks or months.

Covered by insurance

For those diagnosed with treatment-resistant depression or major depressive disorder, Spravato is often covered by insurance.

The science

How Spravato works

Spravato targets different brain chemicals than conventional antidepressants.

Traditional medications target neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine. Spravato, on the other hand, targets glutamate, which helps your brain create new pathways and “rewire” old patterns that keep you stuck in depression.

FAQs

If you take Spravato as prescribed and in a professional medical setting, it is safe to use. Patients with a history of uncontrolled hypertension, brain mass or bleed may not be appropriate candidates for ketamine treatment. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please consult with your physician.

Many patients report improvement in their symptoms within hours of their first session.
The response varies by individual, but rapid relief is a key benefit of ketamine therapy, especially for those with treatment-resistant conditions. Studies show that 70% of people respond to the treatment and 52% of patients achieved full remission of their depression symptoms after four weeks of treatment.

The side effects of Spravato can include mild nausea, dizziness, feelings of dissociation, anxiety or increased blood pressure. These typically resolve shortly after the treatment session. Our medical team monitors patients closely to manage any side effects effectively.

The induction phase includes 8 treatments delivered over 4 weeks. Each Spravato treatment lasts two hours. Following induction, patients move into the optimization phase and come once a month, then transition to a maintenance phase tailored to individual needs.

When Spravato treatment is administered as prescribed in a controlled medical setting, the risk of addiction is very low. Keta Medical Center provides physician supervision and close monitoring during each session to ensure safe use.

If you have a diagnosis of treatment‑resistant depression and have previously tried two or more antidepressant treatments, you may be eligible for Spravato. Keta Medical Center will review your treatment history during a consultation and verify insurance coverage to confirm eligibility and next steps.

No, Spravato requires administration under direct medical supervision in a certified therapy center as mandated by the FDA. Patients are monitored for potential side effects such as increased blood pressure and require an observation period after dosing. Keta Medical Center provides on‑site physician and nursing oversight throughout the session to ensure safety and well‑being.

Our medical director will conduct a consultation and medical screening to review your diagnosis, prior treatment history, current medications, and overall health, and recommend the most appropriate option. Insurance coverage may also play a role in determining the best path forward. Spravato is covered by most major insurance plans, and our team handles all verification, paperwork, and prior authorizations on your behalf. IV ketamine infusions are not typically covered by insurance, though flexible payment options are available.
