PRISM for PTSD at Keta Medical Center

PRISM is a groundbreaking, FDA-approved therapy designed specifically for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Award winning technology:

What Is PRISM?

PRISM is a new, FDA-approved therapy designed specifically for the treatment of PTSD. Developed by the health technology company GrayMatters Health, PRISM is the first and only treatment of its kind using advanced brainwave monitoring and real-time neurofeedback to help patients gain control over their stress responses.

By working with the brain’s natural ability to adapt and rewire itself — a process called self-neuromodulation — PRISM trains patients to regulate activity in the amygdala, the area responsible for the fight-flight-freeze response. This empowers individuals to manage PTSD symptoms without medication or invasive procedures.

This cutting-edge therapy is currently available at only a handful of clinics across the U.S., and Keta Medical Center is proud to be one of them.

The Benefits of PRISM

Noninvasive & drug-free: PRISM is a medication-free treatment, making it an option for those who prefer a non-pharmaceutical approach. Since it doesn’t require talking about past trauma, it’s also an accessible choice for those who struggle with traditional talk therapy.
Precision medicine: PRISM specifically targets the amygdala, the brain region associated with PTSD symptoms. By using an EEG-based signal that correlates with fMRI-validated amygdala activity, PRISM allows for accurate neurofeedback training.
Rapid results: Many patients experience improvement in PTSD symptoms within weeks of starting treatment.
Empowering self-regulation: PRISM trains individuals to actively control their own brain activity, promoting long-term emotional resilience.
Safe & well-tolerated: Clinical studies show that most patients complete the full treatment program comfortably, with minimal side effects.
Long-lasting effects: Research indicates that symptom relief continues even after treatment ends.

How PRISM Works

PRISM therapy leverages neurofeedback technology to help individuals train their brain to regulate stress responses. The treatment uses a non-invasive EEG headset and computer simulation to create an immersive environment where patients learn to regulate overactive brain activity in the amygdala, the area linked to PTSD symptoms.

During a PRISM session, the patient views a simulated waiting room on a computer screen. The room is crowded with agitated avatars gathered around a reception desk. Using a mental strategy — such as recalling a calming memory or imagining a peaceful experience — the patient works to make the avatars sit down and relax. As the patient successfully regulates their brain activity, the avatars begin to settle. If brain activity becomes dysregulated, the avatars will stand up and move around, providing real-time feedback.

This interactive experience gives patients a sense of agency, reinforcing their ability to actively influence their own stress responses. Over time, it rewires neural pathways, promoting greater emotional resilience and reducing PTSD symptoms.

The PRISM Treatment Process

Spravato is administered as a nasal spray under the supervision of a physician.
15 sessions, 8 weeks
Each session lasts 30 minutes, during which patients “train” their brain to regulate the amygdala.
Booster sessions
Some patients may benefit from additional maintenance sessions every 2-3 months to reinforce their progress.
Guided experience
PRISM is administered in a calm, supportive setting. You’ll be guided by a trained professional throughout.

Scientifically Proven Results

Feel better in just hours to days.

Strong Clinical Evidence
PRISM is supported by over 15 peer-reviewed studies, reinforcing its effectiveness as an innovative PTSD treatment.
Results, Backed by Science

67% of patients experience significant improvement, with over 80% improvement rates in some populations, 3 months after treatment. PRISM has shown a 32% remission rate, with over 50% in certain groups.

Lasting Effects
Studies indicate that symptom relief continues months after treatment ends.

FAQs

Many patients experience noticeable improvements within weeks of starting PRISM therapy. Long-term benefits have been observed for months after treatment ends.

PRISM is well-tolerated, with studies showing only mild and transient side effects that may include fatigue, headache, and scalp discomfort in a small percentage of patients. Most individuals complete the full treatment program without any issues.

Yes. PRISM is FDA-approved for PTSD and has undergone extensive clinical testing. It is a non-invasive, medication-free therapy that does not expose patients to thinking about their trauma during treatment.

PRISM is more advanced than traditional neurofeedback. Unlike standard neurofeedback, which provides general brainwave feedback, PRISM uses an innovative approach to specifically target the amygdala, the brain region associated with PTSD. It employs an electroencephalogram (EEG)-based neurofeedback system guided by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data.

EEG-fMRI Pattern (EFP) Biomarker was developed when researchers conducted simultaneous EEG and fMRI recordings to capture the brain’s electrical activity alongside detailed imaging data. By applying machine learning techniques, they established a model that predicts amygdala activity—typically measured by fMRI—using EEG signals. This model is termed the EEG-fMRI Pattern (EFP) biomarker. The EFP biomarker enables real-time assessment of amygdala activity through non-invasive EEG measurements, eliminating the need for continuous fMRI scanning.

PRISM was developed by GrayMatters Health, a pioneering company specializing in brain-based treatments for mental health disorders. In a technology developed by the company, advanced neuroscience is combined with real-time neurofeedback to treat PTSD. GrayMatters Health has received multiple prestigious awards for its innovation, including the 2024 Edison Gold Award, the 2021 Nature Spinoff Prize, and recognition as one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies in 2024.

If you struggle with PTSD symptoms and have not fully responded to other treatments, PRISM may be a great option. Schedule a consultation with our doctors to discuss if it’s right for you.
